For me art is my escape, it is a way for me to express myself and feel confident. I would never have felt that way if it were not for my high school art teacher. She really inspired me to want to be an art teacher, to encourage and work with students to create something that they're really proud of. I can remember being a Junior in high school having no idea what I wanted to do and then one day in the car with my mom it just clicked! I found my self thinking about the piece I was working on in school and wanting to just stay there all day and work and work to make this AMAZING piece, and it just dawned on me, the reason I was so excited was because of her, she made me excited she encouraged me and made me want to work. I want to do that for my future students, I want them to be so excited about their art, and just be really enthused with the art world in general.
When in college my artistic style changed drastically, I began to explore different types of media, like printmaking, painting, photography, and ceramics. I want to make my students excited not only for college arts, but for their everyday life within the school. I want them to make art that excites them, work with new medias, and really find what their good at. When I applied to college I knew that this is what I wanted to do, and I still am 100% sure of it, I love going to school and knowing that I'm going to get to create something!
Because art was my escape I find it extremely important for our future students to want to come into a room where they can feel confident and want to work! I want them to have an environment that isn't only educational but also fun! I can remember going to my first art museum because my teacher told me I would love the current exhibit, Claude Monet, and I was just so intrigued and wanted to know more and I got to learn more because I had that environment and was able to talk her about things I was interested in. For my students I want them to get a lot of history of the artist and help them find what they like and work in a way that interest them.
